Monika Brockhaus has worked as a research assistant at the Bergen-Belsen Memorial since February 2012. She develops formats and content for international encounters with a focus on Israel, and she supports and advises German-Israeli groups and the educators who work with them. She is additionally responsible for designing the training programme of the Bergen-Belsen Memorial. She coordinates, develops and conducts training events aimed at teachers, study seminars and information disseminators in the field of education.

Monika Brockhaus has a master’s degree in history and Jewish studies. She studied these disciplines at the Freie Universität Berlin and Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg. After graduating from secondary school, she spent a voluntary service year in Nes Ammim, Israel. This was followed by additional trips to Israel for intensive Modern Hebrew (Ivrit) language courses, amongst other things. While studying, she also provided educational support to groups of guests in the context of the ‘Youth Work in Bergen-Belsen’ working group of the Landesjugendring Niedersachsen e.V. From 2010 to 2012 she worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Jewish Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin.
