Tessa Bouwman has worked in the Bergen-Belsen Memorial since 2016. As of August 1, she will be replacing Monika Brockhaus (maternity leave) and relating thereto be responsible for coordinating international encounters with a focus on Israel, such as German-Israeli youth encounters, as well as student exchanges and the educators who look after such groups. She is also part of the organisational team for the Bergen-Belsen International Summer School and is available for Dutch guided tours and educational programmes.


Tessa Bouwman holds a master’s degree in history (Holocaust- and Genocide Studies) and a bachelor’s degree in European Studies. She studied at the University of Amsterdam. She wrote her dissertations about the French internment camps Drancy and Les Milles and memory culture in the Westerbork Memorial in the Netherlands. From the autumn of 2015 until July 2016, Tessa Bouwman worked as an intern and freelancer in the Anne Frank Educational Center in Frankfurt am Main.
