Monika Brockhaus has worked as a research assistant at the Bergen-Belsen Memorial since February 2012. She is the point of contact for international encounters with a focus on Israel, such as German-Israeli youth encounters, as well as student exchanges and the educators who look after such groups.

Monika Brockhaus has a master’s degree in history and Jewish studies. She studied these disciplines at the Freie Universität Berlin and Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg. After graduating from secondary school, she spent a voluntary service year in Nes Ammim, Israel. This was followed by additional visits to Israel for intensive Modern Hebrew (Ivrit) language courses, among other things. While studying, she also provided educational support to groups of guests at the Anne Frank House in Oldau for the YMCA Regional Association Hanover, and she was involved in planning and carrying out international youth work camps as part of the “Youth work in Bergen-Belsen working group” of the Landesjugendring Niedersachsen e.V.
